A poor turnout at a pre-budget consultation in Saint John hosted by Finance Minister Cathy Rogers could indicate that people in the Saint John area don't really care or don't feel their opinions matter to government.

Rogers says low democratic engagement always makes her sad. She wonders how can government know what to do if the public doesn't speak or engage.

Rogers says government has a responsibility to share information and people have a respsonsibility to share their interests, concerns and perspectivies calling it a two-way responsibility.

Those on hand learned in a presentation that spending on Health and Education make up 57 percent of the budget.

Two out of every $3 the government spends goes towards Health and Senior care, Education and Social services.
