Higgs Says The Liberals Don't Really Want Discussion

The Gallant Liberals testing the idea of hospital closures and increasing classes as methods for saving money.

They now seem focused on increasing the HST and adding tolls to highways.

Quispamsis MLA and Finance Critic Blaine Higgs says they left out all details when Capital budgets were released in December.

He tells us no details were released on projects and that has never happened before.

He says normally there is a list of all the projects from each department that are making up that budget.

New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party Will Elect A New Leader In October

New Brunswick's Progressive Conservatives will elect a new leader at their leadership convention being held on October 22nd in Fredericton.

PC Party President Jason Stephen says the party is looking forward to choosing their next leader and giving New Brunswickers an alternative to the present government.

Stephen says his party feels as though this isn't just a race for leader of the PC Party, but also Premier of New Brunswick.

He says the party will continue the process of a "one member, one vote" system in choosing the next leader.

St. Malachy's High School Student Named Finalist For $100,000 Scholarship

St. Malachy’s student Jack McCrossin has been named as a National Loran Scholarship Finalist.

Jack will be traveling to Toronto early next month for the final round of interviews for a chance at winning a $100,000 dollar scholarship.

McCrossin says a personal mentorship portion is also added to the scholarship.

He says for each winner, a mentor will be selected who will be able to help along the way over the duration of your studies.

Coach Gallant "Honoured" To Represent Florida Panthers At The NHL All-Star Game

Florida Panthers Head Coach Gerard Gallant has taken his past success with the Saint John Sea Dogs and carried it over into the National Hockey League.

Gallant was named to the coaching staff for the NHL All-Star game taking place this weekend in Nashville.

He says it's a true reflection of how well his team is playing.

Gallant says being named to the All-Star coaching staff is "a great honour".

He started coaching the Panthers last year and says his team was able to build off the year, even though they didn't make the playoffs.

No Jackpot Winner In Friday Night's Lotto MAX Draw

And none of the winners in the additional maxmillions draw were for our region.

Premier Speaks At Youth Opportunities Summit, Doesn't Speak To Media

At the Youth Opportunities Summit at the Lily Lake Pavillion in Saint John, Premier Brian Gallant saying  he's optimistic but not naive about the loss of young people from New Brunswick, saying he knows that's a major challenge.

According to information from the province, in the last five years New Brunswick experienced a net loss of 9600 youth between the ages of 15 and 29.

SJ Lancaster MLA Says Gallant Gov't Has Walked Away From Safe Harbour

With Safe Harbour on Broad Street in the city's south end closing its doors today after less than a year in operation because it has run out of money, Saint John Lancaster Conservative MLA Dorothy Shephard thinks the Gallant Government should have "dug deep" and figured out how they could support the Safe Harbour board of directors in resolving this issue.
